Ideally I would like to have it within a couple of months of moving in and being settled but if it goes much longer then that, then I can see what you mean about just making it a friends thing, which we will prob end up doing. Will always have the siblings though, they are in our groups of friends.

We had a bit party quite a few months after we brought our house but only coz we wanted it to be a pool party (we brought our house in winter and had to fix the pool up). We invited family and friends but family were the younger cousins etc. Started it in the late arvo and had a bbq.

I do like the idea of an open house party.

We technically moved in in July, but the house was barely inhabitable. It was close to finished in November and we had our housewarming/faux xmas a few weeks later.

I didn't want to have a housewarming if most people had seen the house, but few people had by then (it wasn't really fit for entertaining under the tarp off the side of the house!!!)

in a perfect, perfect world, the front yard, front fence and ensuite would have been done before we had a housewarming...but that would have meant waiting awhile!

We moved end of November and had a housewarming/30th for me mid december. It was a fantastic way to motivate us to pack everything away and get the house up to scratch really quickly. Personally, if it's just a housewarming and not combined with a birthday, christmas or other occasion, it should be within a few months of moving in.

I like the idea of open house. Lots of nibbles then a bbq or something a bit more casual meal like around tea time.

Oh and on the food front A - I don't think it will be that hard to prepare it all in teh morning, keep it simple and finger food and just replenish the table as it starts to look sad!

thanks girls for your input. In the perfect world I too would have had a combined 30th and housewarming too but that was not to be....(bloody banks)

yeah I def do want to do with within a set time frame or else I won't bother but its something we both really want to do as its our very first house so its rather exciting.

Im really am not fussed on the food front, I will have so much help and allot of stuff I can do weeks ahead of time (and freeze) so it will really be a matter of heat and serve and replace as it gets eaten.
