Default All about school thread......

I thought with all the recent chat on schools / interviews etc I would start a thread in which we can chat about all things school / kindy.......

This whole school dilemma is doing my head in. We were not successful in getting S into our local parish school down the road. We have two other alternatives that we have placed her name down at however its no certainty she will get in there either.....Sophie starts pre-entry kindy term 4 - That is coming around soooo quickly!!!

How is everyone going with picking a school for their DC? Where are you at with it?

We're in the hands of the Gods at the moment. We've had one interview that we only decided last minute to put his name down at. We like the school and the fee's but aren't all that hopeful of getting a place. I found out on the weekend that Hudson's best friend from childcare has his name down at the school so now I'd love it if they both got in. Only thing is, his friend would be starting first or second term and we had decided to start Hudson third term. If they both get in, I'm semi tempted to start him second term although who's to say they'll even stay friends.

We've got another interview in a few weeks and we should have heard from the first school around the same time. For us it's more of a head doing in between public and private. We still are really unsure if we want the fees of private when we'll also have after school hours care, music lessons probably, then fees for Chloe in a few years too.

As for kindy, we had an info session last week and he'll start pre entry on 27th April then the following term he'll do 2 full days. So that puts him in line to start school in term 3.

It is hard work. I have an open day to attend next week for a look around and will go from there.

Least you only have to do it once. Hopefully the school you find will be good enough for all your children and you wont have to tackle it again until highschool.
Raspberry theres nothing to say that even if they do start at the same time that they will even be in the same class.

We have Lachie's name down at a Catholic primary school one suburb over from us, not sure when they would interview us or if I should put his name down at another school which is further away from here just in case. Not sure what to do with kindy as he will move to the kindy room at child care soon and it would be too hard to send him to a non child care kindy as no one could pick him up. I am thinking of maybe getting him to do one day a week next year at the feeder kindy to the school his name is down at so he can know some kids when he starts school, but I am unsure how important I think that is.

Good luck Jules

We're currently trying to decide between the two public primarys that are close to our house - have to check them both out soon and go from there.

We got our school offer for 2012 2 weeks ago - I just have to remember to pay the deposit (no interviews - they just want cash, lol). I also want to drag DH for a tour at some stage. I am happy with the choice, but I keep having little niggles about whether I am doing the right thing as it is not a local school and the commute will be interesting. I also feel sad that he won't be going to school with his little friends - they are going to 3 or 4 different schools around the place. I know he will make new ones though and I we will still see his curent friends I hope.

Kindy I think I've decided - our c/care centre has just started proper kindy sessions from 9.30 to 3.30, so I think I will leave him there this year rather than shift him for 1 term of pre-entry and 1 term of kindy at our local kindy (he is enrolled in ELC at his school next year).

SO many things to consider! It's hard.
